Who we are…
Sharon Johal Founder and Director
Sharon is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) with over 20 years experience in the finance industry. Prior to becoming a chartered accountant, Sharon had vast experience in retail in a family owned business and managed a portfolio of retail stores (FMCG) after leaving school. Further retail experience was gained working for a major department store where she excelled and within 12 months was offered a management trainee position…which she declined in order to pursuit her ambitions of becoming a chartered accountant!
Sharon recognised the importance of finance in running any business and after qualifying as a chartered accountant, Sharon worked at the ‘Big Five’ (now the ‘Big Four’) where she worked at Arthur Andersen, followed by Deloitte and worked in audit with a range of private and public companies in a range of industries including real estate, hospitality, manufacturing and technology and later financial services (retail banking). Sharon was also the department training manager for two years. Sharon later moved to London and joined Ernst & Young (EY) specialising in hospitality and real estate, followed by 2 years leading the Google EMEIA audit engagement in Dublin. On returning to London, Sharon moved to the Financial Reporting Group within EY providing training and technical assistance to high profile and public audit clients. She also authored three chapters of the EY FRS 102 GAAP book including revenue recognition and investment properties.
Since leaving practice, Sharon has worked for small and large organisations in finance director roles across EMEA managing teams of 4 to 26. Experience in UK GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP and working closely with teams in offshore shared service centres. Sharon has a wide range of experience including cash flow forecasting, working capital review, business forecasts, process improvements, implementation of controls, consolidations, reporting (internal and external), taxation, VAT, statutory accounts, project management, dealing with auditors, payroll, accounts payable processes, billing and accounts receivable processes, setting up of overseas offices, recruiting, training and coaching finance teams.
Sharon has significant experience in commercial and residential properties namely freehold and leasehold purchases as well as locating new sites, managing lease negotiations, rent reviews, managing dilapidations, service charge and ground rent reviews and much more. Sharon can assist with ad hoc property related tax advice and tax planning along with speciaiist property tax advisors.
Sharon also has significant experience in hospitality, namely hotels, restaurants and pubs including Holiday Inn, D&D London, Carluccios, Fuller’s, as well as independent bars and restaurants.
Sharon decided to venture on her own in 2018 and identified a gap in the market…accessibility to offshore accounting for small and medium sized companies. Offshoring of finance activities has always been an opportunity for large organisations who have the funds to set up offshore back office functions but not easily accessible by start-ups and SMEs. RoundPeg Finance has partnered with a company in India to provide a wide range of bookkeeping and accounting services. You gain the benefit of having an experienced team of accountants perform your tasks, as well as a highly technical and skilled Chartered Accountant with Big 4 experience managing and reviewing all your deliverables ensuring the highest of quality. All this with the assurance that you only pay for work performed, flexible resources and all at a significantly lower cost than available in the UK. We also have onshore tax advisory specialists to provide ad hoc tax advice.
Sharon also continues to provide finance consulting and freelance support to companies to assist with all aspects of their finance including cash flow forecasting, reviewing business plans, how to improve revenues and reduce costs, working capital reviews, process and systems improvements and much more.
